FAQ

What types of therapy services do you offer?

At Inner Unity Therapy, I provide online trauma therapy for adults seeking healing from PTSD, complex trauma, childhood trauma, anxiety, depression, and dissociation. I specialize in EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and IFS therapy (Internal Family Systems). All therapy sessions are conducted via secure video sessions for clients located in Illinois and Florida.

Please note: I work only with individual adults. I do not provide therapy for children, teens, couples, or families.

Therapeutic Approaches

What is EMDR therapy and how does it help with trauma?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a research-backed trauma therapy that helps the brain reprocess painful memories using bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or sounds). EMDR allows you to reduce distress without needing to talk about the trauma in detail. It’s effective for PTSD, anxiety, and other trauma-related symptoms.

What is Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy?

IFS therapy is a compassionate, evidence-informed approach to healing emotional wounds. It helps you build relationships with the different parts of yourself—like protectors, inner critics, or wounded inner children—so they can be understood and integrated. At the center of this work is the Self: a calm, wise inner presence that can guide healing.

Do you combine EMDR and IFS in trauma treatment?

Yes. I integrate EMDR and IFS for a personalized trauma therapy approach. IFS helps prepare your system for deeper trauma processing, while EMDR helps the brain release the charge held in traumatic memories. Together, these methods support long-term healing and inner balance.

Getting Started with Online Trauma Therapy

How can I schedule a free consultation?

I offer a free 15-minute consultation for new clients. You can schedule this through this link. This brief call allows us to explore your goals and determine if we’re a good therapeutic fit.

What should I expect in the first therapy session?

Your first session is designed to help us get to know each other and begin building a foundation for our work together. I’ll guide the session in a way that feels supportive for you—some clients prefer a more structured, question-based format, while others feel more comfortable starting with what’s on their mind.

This initial session is considered a diagnostic assessment, which means we’ll spend time gathering information about your history, current concerns, and goals for therapy. Because of this, the first one or two sessions may feel a bit different from our ongoing work, which will become more focused on deeper exploration and healing.

Do you offer online therapy sessions?

Yes. I provide secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth therapy sessions for adults located in Illinois and Florida. Online trauma therapy allows you to access care from the comfort and privacy of your own space. I am working on becoming licensed in additional states.

Session Structure and Frequency

How long are therapy sessions, and how often do we meet?

Standard sessions are 50–55 minutes long. Most clients begin with weekly appointments, though we can adjust frequency based on your needs.

Do you offer EMDR intensives?

Yes. I offer EMDR therapy intensives for clients ready to engage in deeper, focused trauma work. Intensives involve longer sessions (often 90 minutes or more) and may accelerate healing. We’ll collaborate to determine if this is the right option for you.

How many therapy sessions will I need?

The length of therapy varies for each individual and is guided by the goals we identify during the initial assessment. Some clients find meaningful relief after a few months of focused trauma work, while others benefit from longer-term, in-depth support to address more complex or layered experiences. Together, we’ll tailor the pace of therapy based on your unique goals, nervous system capacity, and the demands of your current life circumstances.

Fees, Sliding Scale, and Insurance

What are your therapy session fees?

The standard fee is $160 per 50–55 minute session. Longer sessions and EMDR intensives are available at a prorated rate.

Do you offer a sliding scale for therapy?

Sliding scale fees are available for all services and require proof of income and a breakdown of monthly expenses.

Do you accept insurance for therapy?

I am currently in-network with Carelon Behavioral Health, Quest Behavioral Health, Aetna, and Cigna for clients located in Illinois. If I am not in-network with your plan, I can provide a superbill—a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. If you plan to use a superbill, please let me know before we begin services, as I’m unable to backdate documentation for previous sessions. Many clients are able to receive partial reimbursement, but I recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to confirm your out-of-network mental health benefits.

What is your cancellation or no-show policy?

For clients using the sliding scale, missed appointments or cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice are subject to a $75 fee or the cost of the session—whichever is less. For full-fee clients, the fee is $75.

Trauma-Informed Support and Client Safety

What if I get overwhelmed or triggered during a session?

Your emotional safety is always prioritized. I use grounding techniques and resourcing strategies to help you stay regulated and present during trauma therapy. We move at a pace that feels manageable for you.

Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail?

No. Both EMDR and IFS allow us to work with traumatic memories indirectly. You are never required to share more than you feel ready to. Your consent and comfort guide every step of the process.

What if I dissociate or “check out” during therapy?

Dissociation is a natural response to trauma. I am trained in recognizing and gently working with dissociative symptoms. Together, we’ll build your capacity for presence and safety so that therapy remains supportive and effective.

Confidentiality and Licensure

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. All sessions are private and confidential under HIPAA, Illinois, and Florida state laws. The only exceptions to confidentiality involve risk of harm to yourself or others, or legal requirements related to abuse or neglect. I will explain these limits clearly in our first session.

Where are you licensed to provide therapy?

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) serving Illinois and Florida. I am currently in the process of obtaining additional licensure in other states to expand access to online trauma therapy.

Finding the Right Therapist for You

How do I know if you’re the right trauma therapist for me?

The therapeutic relationship is a key part of healing. I encourage you to schedule a free consultation to see how it feels to connect. Therapy should feel safe, collaborative, and empowering. If I’m not the right fit, I’m happy to refer you to someone who may be better aligned with your needs.

Do you work with children, teens, couples, or families?

No. I specialize in individual therapy for adults (18+) only. My practice does not include work with minors, couples, or families.
